Animation Brunch and Live Music at RiverReel International Film Festival

The RiverReel International Film Festival is coming up this weekend in Cincinnati. It's chock full of independent live action films from around the world.

The thing I am hyperfocusing on, however, is the Saturday Brunch Fundraiser because it will feature the work of Robert Lyons, a NYC based experimental animator and optical fx artist:
Enjoy free coffee and opt for yummy eats as you listen to live music and enjoy an exhibition of experimental animation at this relaxed brunch benefitting the Cincinnati Film Society.

Delicious eats provided by our friends at A Catered Affair. The menu will include: Jumbo lump crab cakes with sweet corn and jalapeno; Shrimp po boy; Cheesy grits; Bread pudding with bourbon sauce, and Cajun chicken with a chicken broth based caper and lemon sauce. And of course, coffee. But, YOU MUST RESERVE IN ADVANCE.

The spotlight is on Robert Lyons, an NYC-based animation artist with a history in photographic and optical special effects. His film and TV credits include: “Pee Wee’s Playhouse”, Peter Gabriel’s “Big Time” music video, and Paramount Picture’s “Star Trek V.” See his personal experimental films and group pieces made with animators he has taught at various animation institutes in NY and PA. He uses found footage from Pee-Wee's Playhouse, scratch and paint on film, microphotography, stop motion, and many other techniques to forge a unique paths in animated filmmaking.

Live zydeco music will be performed by Preston Bell Charles III. Zydeco is a musical genre that evolved in southwest Louisiana by French Creole speakers which blends blues, rhythm and blues, and music indigenous to the Louisiana Creoles and the Native people of Louisiana.

This Brunch is a special event of the RiverReel Film Festival. The $10 per ticket helps us to create more events for you to enjoy, to provide financial support for Ohio filmmakers, and to foster the growth of film of all types in Cincinnati.
Doesn't that sound great? You can find out more information about the RiverReel festival and buy tickets to the Brunch here. I will also share a playlist of films soon.

All festival events are at The Mockbee, 2260 Central Pkwy, Cincinnati OH 45214

Brunch is from 11am-2pm on Saturday March 25th. See you there!

Making Business Not Failure Part 2: Proposals and Contracts

He's probably trying to sell her an explainer video. Business Proposals and Marriage Proposals have similarities. They are both an offer that will hopefully lead to a leap of faith in the form of a "yes" on the proposee's part. The proposer puts thought into the presentation and tries to emphasize the positive in order to influence a "yes."   When saying yes to a marriage proposal, the target is trusting that you will be awesome to be married to and that you will not waste the life you are requesting. And in a project proposal, the target is trusting that you will be awesome at completing the project you are proposing and that you will not waste the money you're requesting.  Before any money changes hands or work starts there needs to be a proposal at least. The proposal is like a contract, only it's more informal. I tend to use proposals, but if I were dealing with larger projects where my risk is greater I would use a contract. Contrac

First Directors Round Table Meeting Recap

The first Animation Directors Round Table Meeting ever, which was last night, was absolutely great. We went over everyone's projects and goals and talked about whatever issues we were having. Everyone was very supportive and encouraging to each other, we set goals for the next meeting, talked about technical issues, and decided upon meeting frequency, and we had some nice booze and trail mix at the same time at the lovely Overlook Lodge . The Overlook Lodge- as a bonus, our table for the Round Table session was actually round . They were also playing Who Framed Roger Rabbit on the screens. I think we need to have another meeting here sometime... After the official business was done we listened to some great live music and talked to each other about various artsy topics.  There were a few new faces who I hope we see again, and a few returning ones that I always love to see! We decided to hold the meetings monthly. To make it easy lets set it on the first Wednesday of each
