Quickdraw Session Tomorrow!

Life drawing by Glen Keane. Sigh. Just a quick reminder that the Manifest Drawing Studio's Quickdraw session is tomorrow Saturday 6/7/14 from 11am-2pm.  Come and draw if you need to capture motion, have accurate anatomy, and to be able to capture life in your drawings! I'm pretty sure since we're all animation artists that this is needed by everyone.  Also, College and High School students get a discount! You can register online or do so when you arrive- I am already signed up and so are some others so let's show them that we want this and that they need to do this again in the future! Support by attending! Here is the  Manifest site  for more info/registering. The drawing studio is at 4905 whetsel avenue, floor 2, madisonville, ohio. See you there!

Life Drawing for Animators (and others who need to draw fast and with motion)

Hi guys! The folks at the Manifest Drawing Studio are so cool- I emailed them to see if they would be down for hosting a gesture life drawing session that is good for animators- short poses no longer than 10 or 15 minutes as well as short ones, mere minutes (or less!). And they are totally doing it! Since we animators have such a volume of drawings to get through its really beneficial to be able to draw quickly and capture motion quickly- and this is how you develop that skill. SO! Come to the session! Show them that animators need access to short poses! Saturday  June 7 11:00 am - 2:00 pm Cost: $20 ($10 for college and high school students) (participants still must register in advance or upon arriving at the Drawing Center)  For info or to register visit the Manifest website!

A model at your beck and call- Updated

Posemaniacs - I went to Christina Wald's class at NKU last week and had a nice time- we were talking about drawing and gesture drawing and one of the students mentioned this website- I checked it out and it looks pretty useful. There are timed poses that you can use to practice gesture drawing at home, and the figures are flayed so you can see their musculature. Also you are able to rotate the figure as needed to understand better why certain things look the way they do-  and enable or disable a grid overlaying the image. Very cool! Do you have any drawing reference sites that you like to use? www.posemaniacs.com PIXELovely - this site has a timed setting as well as the option to choose nude or clothed figures, and it also has a section on animals!  The site is also working on getting enough donated to start a section based on practicing hands and feet, which would be great as well. http://artists.pixelovely.com/ Figure Drawing Reference on Tumblr - ...

Sketchbooks

As animators and animation artists we should be drawing ALL THE TIME.  It's hard to find the time with a busy schedule, but pushing yourself to do it anyway is also part of this game. Here is a collection of sketchbooks on pinterest to check out- see what you like, see what inspires you, see what you hate... see how the sketchbook can be barebones notes or a work of art unto itself. If you have any others that you love looking at just post em below and I will include them. Sketchbooks on Pinterest
