The Fall Approaches: Events on the Horizon

Hi guys- well fall approaches and we have had a taste of colder weather and I am not sure how to feel about that. Before too long has passed I wanted to write an update just to let anyone who visits know what is in the works. We haven't accomplished much mainly due to being buried in work but alas that's how things go.

Some events coming up:

Ask An Animator
The idea for this one came from Nicole and Branden- an "Ask the animator" session online where you can submit any questions you have and I can answer them during a scheduled group chat. This would be good for people who are far enough away from Cincinnati that joining a meeting would be difficult- as long as you can make it to an internet connection you could participate.

CAN Gesture Drawing Sessions
We wanted to get some models together and have a life drawing session made of mostly short poses- 30 second, 1 min, 2 min, 5 min, 10 min. Attendees would need to contribute a small amount toward the cost of the model. It would be an uninstructed session, just bring your own stuff and scribble. This is a great way to practice capturing motion and drawing quickly.

Movie Night
We need to watch movies again! There are some features and short films that have been recommended and we need to see them. Keep an eye here for when this would be!

Animation Workshop
We were thinking about holding an Animation workshop, the purpose of which is to teach everyone the workflow of using Flash for both Layout and Animation on a production, which is very different than using it on your own projects. After this workshop you will have an idea of how to do layout and animation for character animation and you'll have an idea of what to expect from tests you may get from the larger studios, as well as an idea of your strengths and what you need to work on. There would be an attendence fee for this and would take place at Flaming Medusa Studios.

Keep an eye out for ehen these will be taking place! if you have any ideas for an event just let me know, or if you want to be added to the CAN email list, just send a message to cincycan at gmail dot com :)

Making Business Not Failure Part 2: Proposals and Contracts

He's probably trying to sell her an explainer video. Business Proposals and Marriage Proposals have similarities. They are both an offer that will hopefully lead to a leap of faith in the form of a "yes" on the proposee's part. The proposer puts thought into the presentation and tries to emphasize the positive in order to influence a "yes."   When saying yes to a marriage proposal, the target is trusting that you will be awesome to be married to and that you will not waste the life you are requesting. And in a project proposal, the target is trusting that you will be awesome at completing the project you are proposing and that you will not waste the money you're requesting.  Before any money changes hands or work starts there needs to be a proposal at least. The proposal is like a contract, only it's more informal. I tend to use proposals, but if I were dealing with larger projects where my risk is greater I would use a contract. Contrac

First Directors Round Table Meeting Recap

The first Animation Directors Round Table Meeting ever, which was last night, was absolutely great. We went over everyone's projects and goals and talked about whatever issues we were having. Everyone was very supportive and encouraging to each other, we set goals for the next meeting, talked about technical issues, and decided upon meeting frequency, and we had some nice booze and trail mix at the same time at the lovely Overlook Lodge . The Overlook Lodge- as a bonus, our table for the Round Table session was actually round . They were also playing Who Framed Roger Rabbit on the screens. I think we need to have another meeting here sometime... After the official business was done we listened to some great live music and talked to each other about various artsy topics.  There were a few new faces who I hope we see again, and a few returning ones that I always love to see! We decided to hold the meetings monthly. To make it easy lets set it on the first Wednesday of each
